"To
laugh often and much; to win the respect of
intelligent people and the affection of
children; to earn the appreciation of honest
critics and endure the betrayal of false
friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the
best in others; to leave the world a bit
better, whether by a healthy child, a garden
patch or a redeemed social condition; to
know even one life has breathed easier
because you have lived. This is to have
succeeded."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

I work
as the Chief Information Officer for
Marin
Community Foundation. I have been
working in
Information Technology for about 11 years. In
December 2001, I left my position as an Information Systems executive working for eBay at their west coast auction house,
Butterfields
to become a chef.
For
a little over a year, I studied at the west
coast's largest culinary academy and
completed an Associate of
Occupational Studies in Le Cordon Bleu -
Culinary Arts from
The
California Culinary Academy. I
shortly went on to assist in opening a modest
60 seat restaurant in San Francisco
as their Executive Chef and then another
stint at a
second restaurant in Mill Valley.
I still live in San Francisco with my honey
of over a year enjoying the food and
diversity that the city has to offer.
Before Butterfields/eBay, my previous job was working for
Mattel Interactive as their Director of Information Systems and Technology. My job was setting up the internet environment that would power all Mattel web sites including their commerce site. Back in the day of e-commerce, it was pretty exciting stuff (in a geeky kind of way).
I lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa during that
tour of duty. I made a lot of friends
and I miss them all.
Before that I worked 3 years for The Learning Company as the Director of Technical Support. That
found me working in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Knoxville,
Tennessee. I had
a lot of fun directing a seasonal call center of 70 to 450 staff that assisted consumers and businesses with their software and equipment.
Prior to my stint as Director of Technical Support, I lived in San Francisco as the Manager of Information Systems once again for The Learning Company.
Likewise, Boston was home for almost two years before I went to San Francisco. In Boston, I worked for SoftKey International (later bought and became The Learning Company). My first job in Boston was LAN Administrator, then became the company's first Webmaster. I later managed our front-end internet development and coordinated our first commerce site.
In the beginning however, I started in Atlanta for ZSoft and WordStar as a Technical Support representative which I did for about a year before I became a Supervisor. Atlanta is ultimately home, but for right now I like living around the United States and really enjoy the west coast.
